QVC Presents ‘FFANY Shoes on Sale’ to Benefit UPCI Cancer Research

10/10/2013

The Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) and QVC have once again named the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), partner with UPMC CancerCenter, one of the beneficiaries of their annual charitable shoe sale to benefit breast cancer research and education. The QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” broadcast is scheduled to air on QVC® from 6 to 9 p.m. EST, Thursday, Oct. 10.

As a beneficiary, UPCI is scheduled to receive a grant in the spring of 2014 under the condition that it raises matching funds. The grant will support research led by Adrian V. Lee, Ph.D., director of the Women’s Cancer Research Center at UPCI and Magee-Womens Research Institute, and Nancy E. Davidson, M.D., director of UPCI and UPMC CancerCenter. Drs. Lee and Davidson will use the funds to continue their research into why breast cancer recurs and what causes it to metastasize.

“We’re very grateful for the support of FFANY and QVC in our continued efforts to better understand breast cancer,” Dr. Lee said. “Our hope is to examine molecular changes in metastatic breast cancer that may represent new therapeutic targets.”

Since its inception, QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” has sold more than 1 million pairs of shoes and has generated more than $41 million for the cause. This is one of the largest charitable events in the shoe industry in which The Jones Group, Brown Shoe Company and Camuto Group are each donating more than $500,000 worth of shoes.
