Biography

John Austin Vargo IV, MD, is a radiation oncologist specializing in breast cancer and gynecologic malignancies, including image-based brachytherapy and stereotactic radiotherapy.

Dr. Vargo is board certified in radiation oncology. He received his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown and completed a residency in radiation oncology at UPMC.

Dr. Vargo's research interests include 3D image-based brachytherapy, stereotactic radio surgery, stereotactic radio surgery, and national disparities in cancer care. He also serves as a member of the American Board of Radiology written board exam writing committee and several other national committees related to the use of modern radiotherapy, including HyTEC and PENTEC.

Dr. Vargo is a member of the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) - Educational Subcommittee Member, Children's Oncology Group (COG), Radiosurgery Society (RSS), Leskell GammaKnife Society, American Brachytherapy Society (ABS), American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), and International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society.
