Olugbenga T. Okusanya, MD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. His clinical interests include all aspects of thoracic and foregut oncology, benign foregut condition, and robotic surgery.
Dr. Okusanya obtained his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a two-year research fellowship in the thoracic surgery research laboratory at the Harrison Department of Research in Philadelphia. Dr. Okusanya then completed a thoracic surgery residency and a minimally invasive thoracic surgery fellowship at UPMC. He is also a graduate of the American Association of Thoracic Surgery Surgical Robotics Fellowship.
Dr. Okusanya's current research interests include virulence factors for early stage lung cancer, the application of robotic surgery to thoracic disease, and the role of the lung microbiome in the development of lung cancer. He has authored dozens of scientific publications.
