Thomas was experiencing an upset stomach while traveling in Europe. He went to the doctor when he returned home. After some testing, he was diagnosed with stage III esophageal cancer. He received care from experts at Washington Health System Radiation Oncology, in partnership with UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.

After a heart attack and a variety of tests, David was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus and a large obstructing esophageal cancer. During David's surgery his surgeons found an anatomical problem. For most surgeons, this would have ended his surgery, but thankfully he was in the right hands at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
