WASHINGTON, Pa. — UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Washington, Pa., has completed a significant renovation of its medical oncology office at 470 Johnson Road, marking a milestone in its commitment to provide world-class cancer care close to home.
A longtime provider of cancer care in Washington, UPMC Hillman is one of only 57 National Cancer Institute– Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country. This means cancer patients in the Washington area have access to the highest level of care, clinical trials and the latest cancer research available.
“UPMC Hillman has been serving the Washington community for nearly four decades and has responded to the continual increase in demand for its services,” said Elizabeth Wild, president of UPMC Hillman. “This latest renovation is part of a broader strategy to meet current growing patient needs and ensure that timely, compassionate care remains close to home.”
The yearlong, $3.75 million renovation project will expand access by increasing the number of medical oncology treatment chairs from 14 to 19, enabling more patients to receive treatment simultaneously. To support the growing needs of patients, four additional exam rooms and private treatment rooms will offer enhanced privacy and comfort.
This UPMC Hillman location will also add a dedicated “fast-track” chair for patients requiring quick services such as port flushes, lab work and injections, which will reduce wait times and streamline care for simpler procedures.
The redesigned space also enhances the overall patient experience, offering improved comfort and convenience through a larger waiting room and a more efficient layout to foster a welcoming environment.
“Patients in Washington and the surrounding areas appreciate access to advanced treatment options without the burden of traveling far from home,” said Nitin Kapoor, M.D., a medical oncologist at UPMC Hillman in Washington. “Now we can continue to provide that in a more efficient manner and in a spacious, comfortable environment for our patients to make them feel at ease during a difficult time in their lives.”
In addition to the medical oncology upgrades, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Washington recently broke ground on a $6.5 million expansion of its radiation oncology services. This project includes the installation of a second linear accelerator (LINAC), which will significantly increase treatment capacity and improve access to comprehensive cancer care in the region. The new system offers image-guided precision and faster delivery of radiation therapy. This new LINAC is expected to be in operation by early 2026.
In the year since UPMC Washington joined UPMC, this renovation and the added LINAC are examples of the many clinical advancements added and a shared vision to enhance access to care and elevate the patient experience in Washington County and across the southwestern Pennsylvania region.
