Brain Cancer and Tumor Chemotherapy
UPMC Hillman Cancer Center's medical oncologists specializing in brain and spine tumors offer a full range of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Medical oncology involves the use of anti-cancer drugs, gene therapy, immunotherapy, or regional perfusion to treat cancer.
Many brain and nervous system tumors require surgical removal to prevent local recurrence before receiving chemo and radiation therapy treatments.
But, sometimes, chemo alone — or a combination of chemo and radiation — can work to kill the cancer without surgery.
Depending on your needs and how invasive your cancer is, you might receive chemo treatment:
- By mouth.
- By injection.
- At the site of the brain or spine tumor.
Side effects vary with the type of treatment.
