Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) happen when some blood cells don’t mature into healthy cells. At the Mario Lemieux Center for Blood Cancers, we treat all types of MDS, including:

  • Refractory anemia, including refractory anemia with:
    • Ringed sideroblasts
    • Excess blasts
    • Excess blasts in transformation
  • Refractory cytopenia with multilineage dysplasia
  • MDS associated with an isolated del(5q) chromosome abnormality
  • Unclassifiable MDS
